Thanks to our community’s generosity, all eight shelter bedrooms and several common areas have been updated with new decor and furnishings! We have a few more updates to make including:
Pet Welcoming Room: $1,000
This is a transition room for pets when they accompany a woman to the shelter. A sudden change can be scary for pets, so we would like to transform this space into a tranquil environment, complete with durable flooring for our furry friends.
Counselling Room: $2,000
These rooms feel welcoming and safe so that women can be comfortable while seeking vital counselling services. Further donations are required to update the paint and flooring in one counselling area.
Living Room: $2,000
The living room is a major common space for all of our residents where they gather to be social and feel at home. We are seeking modern and durable furniture to update this important room.
The kitchen is used by everyone in the shelter and is in much need of an upgrade. In addition to being the prep area for three daily meals, we host cooking classes for the women to help improve their life skills. Updates might include introducing more counter space, replacing appliances, new flooring and wall painting.
You can help a woman, her children and in some cases, her pet, flee domestic abuse by adopting a room. Your support will ensure that our clients receive the full assistance of our professionally trained shelter staff and programs including:
- A newly renovated, safer, nurturing space
- Meals, bedding, welcome kit, and other essential items
- One-on-one safety and life planning sessions
- Skill building groups
In recognition of your support, you will receive:
- Recognition on The Women’s Centre website and Facebook page
- Recognition in The Women’s Centre public communications
- A plaque at the entrance to your adopted room with your name
- Knowledge that you are helping women and their children in your home community
Please contact Heather Sheldrick by email to adopt your room.
We are excited to share photos of these recently updated bedrooms. These updates were made possible through support from Police Auctions Canada Inc. and two anonymous donors.
