Children and youth who have experienced violence have access to programs and counselling throughout their stay at the shelter and our second stage residential program. They are given support to deal with the changes in their lives including separation, divorce, custody disputes, moving, and school-related issues.
A calming relaxation and play room suitable for children and teens, an outdoor play area, and access to toys, books, games, movies and computers help children to feel more at home in their new surroundings.
Children have the opportunity and are encouraged to express their feelings about their stay, the separation from their abuser, and the abuse they have witnessed. Counselling helps children to understand they are not responsible for the violence, the difficulties in their parents’ relationship, or for changing the situation at home.
